The Big Picture

The Tech Embassy is an experiment in taking “civic hacking” out of self-selecting meet-up spaces and into the streets — where people live, work, and play. We’re iterating on a number of different people-first, inclusive, community-collab models to help neighbors meet, mix, and ideate in the context of local tech.

Our name implies our hope that through these pop-up, cultural activations, we’ll help contribute to a stronger, two-way relationship between local tech communities and the broader cultures in which they exist.

Our first Embassy will be hosted as part of DC’s first-ever Funk Parade, during the event’s street fair on May 3rd, from 11AM to 3PM. Stop by whenever the spirit moves you.

“Too often it feels like the local tech community lives on its own island in the middle of DC,” said organizer Laurenellen McCann of The Curious Citizens Project. “The goal of The Tech Embassy is to change that — at least for a day. By creating a sandbox for exploring and playing with all manner of exciting local tech, we hope to inspire new, creative collaborations with our neighbors and a stronger relationship with our city.”
